A singing yogi with versatile teaching and performance experience, Marielle Hug is passionate about using sound, energy work, breath, and movement to promote healing and connection.
Marielle specializes in combining yoga and sound. Marielle teaches various yoga classes including gentle yoga, slow flow, hot power vinyasa, and meditation. She has experience teaching in yoga studios, fitness clubs, private groups, and individual sessions. Combining her musical ear and yoga background, Marielle provides sound healing sessions with crystal singing bowls and her voice while facilitating yoga classes.
As a classical vocalist, Marielle’s operatic roles include Gertrude in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette (Indiana University), Third Spirit in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (Indianapolis Opera), and Armelinde in Pauline Viardot’s Cendrillon (Indiana University). Hug has performed in multiple opera choruses at IU including Madama Butterfly, Peter Grimes, Lucia di Lammermoor, S. Ran’s world premiere of Anne Frank, and Die Lustige Witwe. A multifaceted musician, she has performed as a pop soloist and student music director with the Grammy-nominated Singing Hoosiers.
Hug is a dedicated music educator. She currently maintains a private voice studio online and in the Louisville area. She is committed to catering her students’ unique interests and nurturing their authentic sound. Voice lessons with Marielle can include various singing styles, music theory, ear training, and foundational vocal technique. She was the choral director at Bloomington High School North from 2020-2022, where she taught advanced and beginning level choirs, music theory, history of rock and roll, and served as music director for school productions.
Wired with a strong empathic nature, Hug provides Reiki healing services to clients in the Louisville area. Trained in the Usui lineage, Marielle uses Reiki or “universal life force energy” to help regulate the nervous system, cleanse the auric field, and promote relaxation.
Hug received her Bachelor of Music in Voice and Bachelor of Music Education from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in 2020. She completed her Master of Music degree in Voice studying with Jane Dutton in 2024. She completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training twice at Kootenay Yoga School in Isla Mujeres, Mexico. She completed her Reiki Master certification with Christine Eartheart in Bloomington, Indiana.
