A singing yogi with versatile teaching and performance experience, Marielle Hug is passionate about the connection between the voice and yoga practice.

Hug is a professional vocalist with over 15 years of classical voice training. Recent operatic roles include Gertrude in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette (Indiana Unversity), Third Spirit in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (Indianapolis Opera), and Armelinde in Pauline Viardot’s Cendrillon (Indiana University). Hug has performed in multiple opera choruses at IU including Madama Butterfly, Peter Grimes, Lucia di Lammermoor, S. Ran’s world premiere of Anne Frank, and Die Lustige Witwe. A multifaceted musician, she has performed as a pop soloist and student music director with the Grammy-nominated Singing Hoosiers.

Marielle became a dedicated yogi during the global pandemic. She discovered that Yoga is a powerful tool to connect mind, body, and soul, and that Yoga has profound mental, emotional, and physical health benefits. As a natural teacher, she knew she needed to share Yoga with others.

Marielle’s teaching specialties include gentle yoga, sound healing, hot vinyasa, power vinyasa, meditation, and she also offers Reiki. She has experience teaching in yoga studios, fitness clubs, private groups, and individual sessions. She completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training twice at Kootenay Yoga School in Isla Mujeres, Mexico. Marielle is dedicated to creating safe spaces for her students and offers a compassionate teaching style.

As a singing yogi, Marielle incorporates soothing singing in her yoga classes during savasana, the final resting posture of class. She is always seeking ways to create a connection between the power of live music and yoga. Marielle is currently facilitating Yoga in Harmony, a series of slow flow classes fused with talented live musicians at The Hot Room Bloomington.

Along with her extensive singing and yoga activities, Hug teaches voice lessons. She is committed to catering to her students’ unique interests and nurturing their authentic sound. Voice lessons with Marielle can include various singing styles, music theory, ear training, and foundational to advanced vocal technique. She was the choral director at Bloomington High School North from 2020-2022 and served as music director for school productions.

Hug received her Bachelor of Music in Voice and Bachelor of Music Education from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in 2020. She completed her Master of Music degree in Voice this year at IU studying with Jane Dutton.

Her first 200-hour yoga teacher training was completed in July 2023 and her second 200-hour training was completed in January 2024 both in Isla Mujeres, MX certified by Yoga Alliance. She recently completed her Reiki Master certification with Christine Eartheart in Bloomington, Indiana.
